Directory - HMO Health Maintenance Organizations

HMOs (Health Maintenance Organizations) are a type of Group Health Insurance Plan. The Employers and their Employees who are Subscriber Members of the HMO are provided a managed system for their health Care needs. The HMO provides the health services through a group of doctors, medical personnel, and facilities that work directly for the HMO. Each Employee, Family or Individual is required to select a Primary Care Physician who acts as a "Gatekeeper" for their medical needs. The insured should live in close proximity to the HMO facilities. The HMO generally receives a prepaid fee for the comprehensive medical services. HMOs can operate on a regional or national basis.
